Kingwood Medical Center received the designation of Accredited Chest Pain Assessment Center by the Society of Chest Pain Centers, making it the seventh Accredited Chest Pain Center in Texas and the 57th in the nation. We work closely with EMS providers to rapidly diagnose and treat acute heart attacks. With door-to-balloon times averaging 70 minutes – well below the national standard of 90 minutes – our interventional cardiologists diagnose and non-surgically treat heart conditions.

Kingwood Medical Center has the area’s first Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) program – a medical sub-specialty of cardiology/cardiac surgery concerned with the study of rhythm disorders of the heart (abnormal heartbeats). EP studies are performed to assess the electrical activity and electrical pathways within the heart muscle to find abnormal rhythms. These studies help physicians evaluate abnormal electrocardiograms (EKG), detect complex arrhythmias, assess future risk of developing arrhythmias and assist the physician in designing an optimal treatment plan.

Our Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is designed to educate patients who have experienced a cardiovascular event and help them recover faster. The goal of our program is to help patients return to a full and productive life and is divided into three phases:
Our rehabilitation experts combine education, counseling, exercise and lifestyle tips to help patients feel better and live healthier lives.
Aimed at helping heart patients on their road to recovery, we established our Mended Hearts program to help heal the hearts and minds of cardiac patients as they begin to understand the newness and fullness of what life after heart disease can offer. Caring for heart patients inside and out is a goal of the program as well as our hospital.
The program is a national nonprofit organization affiliated with the American Heart Association whose volunteers speak from personal experience. Many were heart patients themselves or have family and friends impacted by a heart condition. It allows trained volunteers to spend one-on-one time with inpatients as they empathize with concerns, answer questions and encourage working towards recovery.

Kingwood Medical Center offers the area's first and only Hypothermia program, an important lifesaving "cooling" therapy for those suffering a heart attack. Emergency services providers are equipped with ice bags that when applied correctly to the heart attack patient, help to lower the patient's body temperature thereby preserving brain function after a cardiac arrest. Emergency responders coordinate this method of care with the Emergency Department physicians at Kingwood Medical Center who are specially trained in hypothermia treatment.
Some heart attacks are sudden and intense, but most start slowly with mild pain or discomfort. Here are signs that can indicate a heart attack is happening:
Note: As with men, women's most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort. However, women are somewhat more likely than men to experience other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting and back or jaw pain according to the American Heart Association.
