Kingwood Medical Center offers various classes and support groups to members of our surrounding communities.
Breastfeeding Support Group: Led by our Lactation staff to support post partum patients who are breastfeeding. What to bring: your breastfeeding babies and your questions. No charge to attend.

Childbirth Preparation – Marathon Class: Offered for expectant parents and taught by our Childbirth Educators, the class covers terminology, the process of labor, medical interventions and options, relaxation techniques, newborn care and a hospital tour. Participants are encouraged to take the class late in the second or early in the last trimester of pregnancy. What to bring/wear: comfortable clothing, 2 pillows, a blanket and a support person. Fee: $40 per couple for those delivering at Kingwood Medical Center or $60 for those delivering elsewhere.

Diabetes Education Class: The diabetes self-management education program has been awarded Recognition by the American Diabetes Association in accordance with the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs. Our Diabetes Outpatient Education program offers a TEAM approach for people managing pre-diabetes, type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes. We offer either group or individual sessions to teach participants about diabetes, individualized meal planning, carbohydrate counting, weight management, self-blood glucose management skills, medication use, insulin administration instructions and more. What to bring: a three-day written food record, your home blood glucose monitor, your medication list, and a snack.

To schedule an outpatient appointment: Please ask your physician for a diabetes education prescription order, an insurance referral form and to fax your order to 281-348-8699. You will be scheduled based on your diagnosis, special needs and time preference.
Diabetes Support Group: Facilitated by the diabetes educator, the diabetes education support group is offered to people with a diagnosis of pre-diabetes, type 1, and type 2 diabetes and their family members. Invited guest speakers discuss the most recent updated information for successful diabetes management. No charge to attend.

Infant Safety and CPR Class: Taught by an American Heart Association certified CPR instructor, the class is offered to new parents, parents- to- be, grandparents or care givers to learn the latest information about infant safety. Topics covered in the class include: car seat safety, SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), child-proofing your home and CPR for friends and family. Fee: $10 per person.

Introduction to Breastfeeding Class: For expectant mothers, this class should be taken in the second trimester of pregnancy. Topics include: breast anatomy and hormones, latch-on and positioning, Potential Challenges, Pumping and storing breast milk, and returning to work. What to bring: a support person (at no additional cost). Fee: $10.

Mended Hearts: A unique support group for heart patients, their families and caregivers. Mended Hearts partners with hospitals and rehabilitation clinics to help those affected by heart disease have a positive patient-care experience. No fee.

Sibling Class: For soon to be siblings between the ages of 3 and 10, the class topics include caring for a newborn, holding an infant, newborn characteristics and a tour of the Women's Center. No charge to attend.
