HCA Affiliated Kingwood Medical Center is lead by a team of more than 850 employees and 480 physicians and is supported by an impressive Board of Trustees comprised of highly respected and accomplished physicians as well as community business leaders.
The role of Kingwood Medical Center’s Board of Trustees is to assist in evaluating the hospital’s delivery of health care and development of new service lines and programs that ensure our patients are provided the most advanced technology and cost effective health care close to home.
Nancy Shortsleeve, Board of Trustees Chair Nancy was born in Roanoke, Virginia and raised in Columbus, Ohio. She received a Bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University and since 1986, has worked with hospitals throughout the Houston area in marketing and sales. In 1988, she started Logostuff, Inc. and today is owner and President of the company.
Nancy has been a strong supporter of many different organizations throughout the community. She is a past Chair of the Board of the Humble Area Chamber of Commerce, past Board President of the Atascocita Community Improvement Association, past Board member of FamilyTime Crisis and Counseling Center, past member of the grant review committee for the Houston Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and has been a longtime member of the East Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. Currently, Nancy serves on the Board of the Humble Area Assistant Ministries and the Humble Area Chamber of Commerce and is Chair of the Board of Trustees of HCA’s Kingwood Medical Center. In 2004, Nancy received the FamilyTime Woman of Achievement Award in the Special Recognition category for her commitment to the community.
Nancy and her husband Kenny have been residents of Atascocita since 1989. They are members of Atascocita Methodist Church where Nancy served as Youth Minister from 1997 to 2002. She currently serves the church as Lay Leader to the congregation.
Edward G. Baptista, M.D., Chief of StaffDr. Baptista was born in the Philippines, but moved to Texas as a child where he graduated Valedictorian from North Mesquite High School. He received a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, cum laude, from the University of Dallas in Irving and attended the University of Texas Medical School in Houston.
Dr. Baptista completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston where he was elected Chief Medical Resident and later Chief Cardiology Fellow. He has been on staff at Kingwood Medical Center since 2003.
Board certified in Internal Medicine as well as Cardiovascular Disease, Dr. Baptista has also received the Merck Clinical Fellow Award and the National Institute of Health Fellowship Grant. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the Texas Medical Association.
Dr. Baptista is highly regarded by the hospital staff and his colleagues and has been voted "Most Popular Physician" by staff for the past 3 years in a row. An avid golfer, Dr. Baptista also enjoys building computers, all sports and traveling.
Andy Dill Mr. Dill was born in Tyler, Texas where he lived for his first five years. He completed 1st and 2nd grade in Jacksonville, 3rd grade through 6th in Nacogdoches, moved to Waxahachie in 11th grade and back to Nacogdoches where he graduated from Nacogdoches High School. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University. Since August of 2003, Andy has served as President of the Community Chamber of Commerce of East Montgomery County providing leadership that has grown the Chamber from 143 members to 401 currently.
Prior to entering the professional Chamber arena, Andy enjoyed a twenty-five year career in the telecommunications industry and five years in the petrochemical and agricultural chemical industry. His career has led him throughout Southeast Texas where he has gained unique perspective of the area.
Andy's contributions through his community and professional affiliations represent a lifetime of service to others. He has served as President of the Gulf Coast Chamber Executives organization, President of the Association of Texas Leadership Programs, President of the Rotary Club of East Montgomery County, Chairman of the Board of the Greater Conroe/Lake Conroe Area Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Board of the Montgomery County United Way as well as numerous advisory and community development committees.
Recognized for his service, Andy has received New Caney ISD's Star Achievement Award, Volunteer of the Year Award by the Conroe Family YMCA, the Joe Byrd Community Service Award from New Caney New Horizons and the Club Service Award from the Rotary Club of East Montgomery County and is a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary.
Married to his wife Sylvia for more than thirty-five years, they enjoy spending time with their family, especially their three grandchildren. Many weekends the family also enjoys time at their "farm" east of Fairfield, Texas.
Michael F. Graham, M.D., Former Chief of StaffPast (2008) Chief of Staff at Kingwood Medical Center
Born in Oak Lawn, Illinois, Dr. Graham's family moved to Houston when he was in first grade. He graduated Valedictorian of his class at Spring Branch High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in the field of Physics from the California Institute of Technology. His graduate education was completed at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
Dr. Graham continued his post graduate work in the field of Adult and Pediatric Urology in the Houston area. He completed his residency training at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. He is a highly regarded board certified Urologist and member of the Texas Medical Association, the Harris County Medical Society, the American Medical Association and the American Urological Association.
Dr. Graham is married to his wife, Jae, and they have three children.
Keith LapezeA native of Louisiana, Keith received a Bachelor of Arts from Louisiana Tech University followed by a Juris Doctorate from Louisiana State University in 1998, graduating Order of the Coif. A year later he completed a judicial clerkship with Judge James L. Dennis on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. After moving to Houston in 1999, Keith became a partner at Vinson and Elkins, LLP. With ten years tenure at V&E, Keith ventured out and founded the Houston law firm Lapeze & Dunahoe. Keith’s achievements in the law have earned him recognition in numerous national and regional publications.
Keith is an integral part of the community having served as an Humble I.S.D. Trustee since 2006 and recently served on the Humble ISD Education Foundation Board of Directors. Prior to his election as a Trustee, he served on Humble I.S.D.'s 2005 Bond Review Committee and the District Advisory Committee, among his other volunteer activities with the District. When not practicing law or serving as a volunteer, Keith enjoys spending time with his family, fly fishing, snowboarding and playing golf.
Residents of Fall Creek, Keith and his wife, Christy, have one child, Luke, and attend Kingwood United Methodist Church.
Victor Lugo-Miro, M.D.A native of Puerto Rico, Dr. Lugo-Miro, is a longtime resident of Kingwood, Texas. As a board certified Pediatric physician, Dr Lugo-Miro is a highly respected staff leader who has served as Chief of Staff for two consecutive terms. Additionally, Dr. Lugo-Miro has served as Credentials Chairman, Department of Family Practice/Internal Medicine Chair and Medical Staff Performance Improvement Committee Chairman. He was recently elected Secretary Treasurer of the Medical Staff.
Dr. Lugo-Miro received his undergraduate degree and went to medical school at the University of Puerto Rico. He did his Pediatric Residency at Puerto Rico’s University Children’s Hospital and at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado where he also fulfilled his Adolescent Medicine Fellowship. Dr. Lugo-Miro served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps for 10 years.
Professional organizations Dr. Lugo-Miro is affiliated with are The Texas Medical Association, Harris County Medical Society and American Academy of Pediatrics, Fellow. He also serves on the Board of Directors at Northeast Christian Academy in Kingwood.
Dr. Lugo-Miro is married to his wife, Maritza, and has four sons.
Stephen Maniscalco, M.D.A native Houstonian, Dr. Maniscalco is a renowned, board certified Cardiovascular/Thoracic Surgeon and has been a member of the Medical Staff of Kingwood Medical Center since July 2007. He was instrumental in the development and implementation of the hospital’s highly successful heart surgery program.
As an undergraduate student at Texas Tech University, Dr. Maniscalco received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering but discovered his true passion leading him to medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas where he graduated second in his class. He did his residency in General Surgery at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and his Fellowship in Thoracic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
Dr. Maniscalco is a member of the Texas Medical Association, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. He is also a member of the Michael E. DeBakey International Surgical Society and a candidate member of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. "Mani" is married to his wife, Jill, and they have three children.
Bob Roy Bob was born in Midland, Texas and moved to the Humble area in 1982. He is CenterPoint Energy’s Service Area Director in the Greenspoint and Humble service areas. Bob graduated magna cum laude from the University of Houston in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Technology.
In addition to his service as past Chair of the Humble Area Chamber of Commerce, Bob also recently served on the Humble ISD Education Foundation Board of Directors and the CenterPoint Energy-University of Houston Alumni Group Board of Directors.
Married to his wife, Janice, for 29 years, they have two children: David and Julia. For the past two years, Bob has been the District Chairman of the Boy Scouts’ “Friends of Scouting” campaign.
Bill ShankBill was born and raised in Jacksonville, Texas. He graduated from high school at the Texas Military Institute in San Antonio where he was commander of the Color Guard, the Flag and Standard bearers for the school. He received a degree in Finance from Texas Tech University.
From the age of fourteen, Bill worked in the family business, Beall’s Department Store. After graduation from Texas Tech, he moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, to begin his career in the business working his way from window washer to CFO and VP of Real Estate and Administration. While in Shreveport, he was the first recipient of a Leadership Scholarship and was one of the founders of the Independence Bowl.
Moving to the Kingwood area in 1994, Bill joined Edward Jones and helped build his business to one of the company’s top producers. In 2003, Bill joined his son at A.G. Edwards in Kingwood until 2006 when they continued the family business tradition by starting Shank Wealth Management Company.
Bill has served on the Board of El Centro de Corazon in East Houston, the Board of the Humble Area Chamber of Commerce as well as various committees as a Lifetime Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Along with his wife, Mary, the couple has three children and one grandchild.
Linda StegallDr. Stegall received her Bachelor’s in Business Administration, Masters in Business Education, and Doctorate in Education from the University of North Texas in Denton. She also studied at Sam Houston State University and the University of Texas at Austin.
From August of 1999 to August of 2008, Dr. Stegall served as President of Kingwood College. Prior to coming to Kingwood College, she was Vice Chancellor for Education and Student Development for the North Harris Montgomery Community College District, a role she fulfilled for five years. Previously, she spent 17 years working for the Dallas County Community College District as Vice President of Instruction at El Centro College and at Mt. View College for 12 years; she was also a District Director of Occupational Education for five years.
Dr. Stegall has served as a respected member of a number of professional and community organizations including past member of the Board of Directors of the Humble Area Chamber of Commerce, the Humble Intercontinental Rotary Board of Directors, the Friendship Center Board and the Village learning Center Board. At the state level, she served on the Texas Skills Standards Board and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s Formula Advisory Committee.
Dr. Stegall retired from academia in 2008, but remains active in the community. She and her husband, Eddie, enjoy golf and other outdoor recreations as well as spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Mike SullivanMike Sullivan was sworn in as a member of Houston City Council, representing District E, on January 4, 2008. His Council District spans 63 miles from Kingwood to Clear Lake, and includes areas along the Beltway 8 South, I-45 South near Hobby Airport, and Highway 225 near Pasadena. Sullivan also served as an elected member of the Board of Trustees of the Humble Independent School District from 2004 - 2007.
Council Member Sullivan is also a small business owner. He owns Mar-Max Supply, Inc. – a distributor of industrial paints and coatings in business for over 35 years, is a licensed real estate broker affiliated with Keller-Williams Realty Northeast and has an equity position in RustBusters – an industrial blasting and painting contractor serving the oil and gas/civil engineering/and marine markets.
Sullivan is an Ex-Officio Director of Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, a member of the University of Houston Clear Lake's President” Cabinet, formerly served as a Director of FamilyTime Crisis and Counseling Center as a Director of Justice For All and as an Officer of the Humble/Intercontinental Rotary Club. He also served on the Executive Committee of the Region H Water Planning Group from 1997 – 2005. He is active in his local chambers of commerce and numerous other local organizations.
Married for 25 years to Kim Sullivan, they are proud parents of a daughter who attends Kingwood High School. Additionally, their family attends The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Kingwood.
Juan Mario Villafani, M.D., Chief of Staff F.A.C.S., Past (2009) Chief of Staff at Kingwood Medical Center
Dr. Villafani was born in Santa Cruz Bolivia, but moved to Houston from Minnesota as a teenager. He graduated from high school at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory School in Houston and went on to study at Houston Baptist University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry.
Dr. Villafani, a highly regarded board certified General Surgeon, received his medical school education at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas. He completed his Internship and Residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston in the field of General Surgery. St. Joseph’s Hospital also provided Dr. Villafani with advanced training in the areas of Laparoscopic Surgery, GI Surgery, and Advanced Trauma Life Surgery.
Married to his wife, Laura, for more than 10 years, they are the proud parents of two children. The family’s interests include traveling, model trains, ice hockey and soccer.
Chik-Fong Wei, M.D., Former Chief of Staff Past (2007) Chief of Staff at Kingwood Medical Center
Dr. Wei was born in Hong Kong and moved to the United States for his college education where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a PhD in Biophysical Sciences from the University of Houston. He also received an M.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
Dr. Wei completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases Fellowship at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. After finishing his fellowship training, he served as an assistant professor of Cardiology in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston where he was honored with the Dean’s Excellence Award four years in a row. He was also elected by the senior medical class to be a faculty member of the AOA Honor Society.
Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Wei also received certification from the Board of Nuclear Cardiology. He is a member of the Harris County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
